Tent Camping and Budget Stays in Tulum

There are still lots of questions about camping on the beaches and off the grid budget stays in or around Tulum. There is still opportunity to do both. Also the expansion of downtown Tulum offer new options for hostels and budget stays.

Some friends of mine were in Tulum last year and raved how great the ambiance and people were.
But also said when they go back, they are definitely going the way of tents instead of the hotel they stayed at-to get a more real experience.
So... any information, advice, and contacts HIGHLY appreciated!!!
